Wouldn’t it be such a cool skill to be able to bake delicious and gorgeous looking cupcakes?

For Rachael Laing, owner of Cakes by Rachael, it has been her favourite past time from a very young age.

We went over to Rachael’s to get some pointers on how to decorate cupcakes like a boss!

She showed us in three simples steps on how to make one of her most popular styles - the unicorn cupcake.

When did you realise you loved baking?

My granny used to come from overseas for about two months every few years and she taught me how to bake. When I was about 12 years old, I became really interested in decorating and have done it ever since.

When did you start Cakes By Rachael?

I first started Cakes By Rachael when I finished school in 2012. It started it as a hobby and at the beginning of last year, it became my full-time job.

Can you tell us a bit about what Cakes by Rachael is?

Cakes by Rachel is a small business run by myself. I do custom cakes, cupcakes and desserts for all kinds of celebrations. I am so lucky to be a small part of people's happiest moments.

What are your favourite things to bake?

I bake cakes everyday so when I get to make desserts it’s super exciting and different!
