How did Barber Girl begin?

My husband and I have run a men’s barbershop over in Paddington.

Over the years of running the salon, we noticed there was a large number of ladies coming in asking for quick, easy and affordable haircuts.

From there, we took the concept of men’s barbering and thought, ‘how can we apply this to women?’

Once the concept came together, opening the salon in Bulimba was an easy choice for us.

We’ve been living local in this great suburb for years, we know all the locals.

What was the concept behind the funky space?

I wanted a space that was fun, colourful and a little bit grungy to reflect our clientele.

The space is constantly changing. I paint a lot of the artworks and create the art hangings in the salon.

Whenever I feel like changing it up and creating something new, I will.

It’s always exciting for our regular customers because they know that next time they come in the space may look completely different!

How’s Barber Girl involved with the community?

Whenever there’s a local fundraiser or event, we like to donate and help out the community where we can.

In the past we have been a part of ‘Shave for a Cure’, breast cancer research fundraisers and many more.

We regularly donate to the local schools. Recently we donated raffle prizes for the trivia event at Bulimba State School.
