Finding a great local eat is an amazing feeling. It’s not just about the convenience, but also the community.

Sam’s Gourmet Pizza serves fresh, mouthwatering pizzas to locals from their small shop just behind the Kuraby train station.

Jordan Masci has taken the grand tour with the owner of Sam’s Gourmet Pizza, Zain Ghumra, to find out more about the restaurant and the impact a great local eat can have on the area.

How did you get into making pizza?

Basically, it’s a family business. My two brothers, my father and myself love food and cooking food, so when we saw this shop up for sale back in 2014, we immediately bought it off the previous owner.

What type of people come to your shop?

Well, we’ve got a multicultural customer base, young kids, elderlies, teens, basically a lot of people who live in the local area.

We also get a lot of school runs - parents and students coming in to pick up a pizza after school

What does Halal mean?

The key thing about our shop is that the food is halal, which means permissible or lawful in traditional Islamic law.

Halal meat gets it’s name from the way it’s prepared, which is similar to what the Jews have - it’s called Kosher.
