Caxton street | Our Footy Season Favourites
Author // Shannon Edwards, Place New Farm
Autumn brings many things for Brisbanites - heavy rain, falling leaves and cooler nights, but more importantly, the footy season!
Whether you’re a union, league or soccer fan, you’ll be heading to Suncorp Stadium to support your team.
Who says the fun has to end at full time?
Since you’re in the area you may as well make a night of it.
Whether you’re up for a pre-game buzz or post-game celebration, win or lose, the energetic vibe of the nearby Caxton street is always a good option.
We’ve compiled a list of what to do this season before and after your footy fiesta.
The Caxton Hotel
Rather than “meeting at the Wally Lewis Statue” why not meet your mates for a pre-drink at the historic and boisterous Caxton Hotel.
The ‘Cacko’, as it’s affectionately dubbed, is a go-to for some shoulder-to-shoulder pre-game pump up.
Dating back to 1884, The Cacko’s one of Brissy’s oldest licensed venues, and has been a favorite amongst locals for centuries.
Lukewarm chips at the game not your thing?
As the motherland of all pub grub, The Cacko has a mean menu to satisfy any pre or post game cravings.

Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall
This Caxton street classic is a favorite post-game hangout.
Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall brings country music and American eats to game-goers and is the perfect spot to enjoy live music and debrief on the game over a nice cold brew.
With red walls adorned with antique mirrors and taxidermy wildlife, Lefty’s retro charm is unlike any other.
A short stroll from Suncorp Stadium, Lefty’s has seen many wild nights in its days.

Brewski
Serving an impressive daily lineup of beers on tap, rotated from their 200 local, national and international brews, Brewski is just what the name suggests – it’s all about beer.
For all you beer lovers out there, this is the watering hole for you.
While you’re enjoying an ice cold brew, sink your teeth into their seriously delicious American-style menu.
From BBQ wings to their exclusive mac & cheese burger (possibly the two best junk foods in one), Brewski has a menu which pairs perfectly with a cold brew.

Fritzenberger
Fritzenberger is Caxton street's new pub dedicated to frites and burgers.
Taking the classic crowd-pleasing meal up a notch, Fritzenbergers menu is simply mouthwatering.
Forget a burger at the game, indulge in one of Fritzenberger’s ‘classics’ built from locally sourced ingredients.
Complete with a range of seasonings including ‘Twistie salt’ (yes, Twistie salt!) you can’t leave the place without trying their exclusive fries.
And what goes best with fries and burgers? Beer.
Fritzenberger is the full package with its very own microbrewery.

Peasant
Right up the top of Caxton street you’ll stumble across The Barracks - for the more discerning footy fans that are looking for a pre-game meal minus all the riffraff.
From the rustic, low-lit interior through to the extensive wine list, Peasant is a tapas bar and restaurant worthy of an address in Barcelona.
From rustic Spanish meatballs to saffron rice stuffed peppers, the menu presents ‘simple’ things in a delicious way.
This local fav is as much about good food as it is about a good time, with a comfortable atmosphere and exceptional staff, making for the perfect pre-game experience.

Libertine
While we’re on the topic of international cuisine, the Barracks Libertine Bar & Restaurant is a must.
Dishing up a beautiful blend of French-Vietnamese cuisine, Libertine’s lunch, dinner and drinks menu will add a little luxury to your evening of footy.
With three-metre-high chandelier, gold leaf embellishments and decadent wallpaper, Libertine will transport you far from the chaos of Caxton street (if that’s not your scene).
