Hidden down a little street and nestled next to artists' studios is Shabby Treasures down the lane

Filled to the brim with up-cycled furniture, collectables and quirky trinkets, Shabby Treasures is a hidden gem in leafy green Newmarket.

Many of the pieces of furniture in the shop are the result of owner Jenny Hayden's 20-year love affair with revamping furniture.

Despite failing art in high school, Jenny found a love for repainting homewares in bright, eye-catching colours after watching her dad do the same in the seventies.

We caught up with Jenny to discuss her love for all things shabby chic.

What advice would you have for people who are wanting to repaint their furniture but aren't sure where to start?

Just give it a go. Once you have the piece you want to revamp, come down and get some paint, and get to it.

If you don't like it how it turns out, sand back the paint and try again.

It's all about having fun and being creative - there is no wrong or right look.
