ST BARTS INSPIRES HOME STYLERS WITH A UNIQUE SENSE OF WANDERLUST

St Barts Luxe Bohemian Lifestyle Store draws inspiration from the relaxed, natural elegance of the Caribbean Coast, offering only the finest products, beautifully crafted and sourced from around the world. Their eclectic range extends from high end furniture, fashion and unique collectables to exotic gifts, jewellery and charming accessories.

Places Magazine spent a few minutes with Director, Jasmine Smith to learn more about St Bart’s aspirational spaces.

Where did the idea of St Barts come from?

Originally we wanted to fill a gap in the market for hard-to-find, unique bohemian luxe homewares and furnishings. And we wanted to present an idyllic and inspiring space full of carefully collected and created pieces from global travels. We love for our pieces to unearth a sense of wanderlust and adventure within the home, each piece with its own story to tell.

Where do you find your products?

We travel a few times a year to source one of a kind treasures, procuring crafted curiosities, fabulous furnishings, fine fashion and all things made with heart. We come home enriched, happy, and with full suitcases!

Having previously travelled Africa, Asia and Europe, this year we are looking forward to exploring the richness of India. There's something deeply spiritual about India and we're drawn to its people, the culture and of course the colour!

Browsing your stores feels like quite and adventure, was this intended?

We hope so! A great aspiration for us is to really take people on a global journey as they wander through our stores, and then be able to take a little bit of that wanderlust home.

Is there a corner of the world you haven't explored?

We've been most places however we'd love to explore Africa further and go back to some of our favourite places, linger a little longer particularly South Africa and Morocco.

How do you know you’ve found an item that will appeal to your market?

We try to understand our customer and listen to them, we watch trends, but essentially it's quite a natural and organic process, based off what we're personally drawn to. Sometimes we buy with a customer in mind, and other times we buy because we can't live without it!

With winter now here, what tips do you have for home owners to brighten and add warmth to their spaces?

We have been welcoming winter in store with what we like to call our 'mood enhancers', bright handwoven boucherouite rugs from a gypsy journey through Morocco a few moons ago. Every one by its very nature is unique. The colours are pure and perfectly placed like those of nature; cobalt and saffron, musk and turmeric, sky blue and mandarin. They’re very cosy and perfect for hibernating.  You can read more about them on our journal at www.st-barts.com.au/journal

Tell us about your latest arrivals?

We have just received new pieces for a couple of upcoming trade shows we are involved with; Decor & Design in July, and Life Instyle in August. Some favourite new additions include glamorous onyx pieces, oversize pendants, chunky raw wood bowls and crisp white linen lounges - which can already be found in stores. We've also just received some lush hand-woven wool cushions - their textures are divine!

What’s next for St Barts?

The next few months are an exciting time for St Barts, with the upcoming trade shows ushering in a new season of style throughout the stores. We’re also  planning events at both our James Street store in Brisbane, and our Ferry Road store on the Gold Coast. In September we will be celebrating the Inside Out festival at The Brickworks with a live ceramic demonstration and a styling workshop which will also be offered at the Resort Event in Brisbane in October. Limited places will be available for an intimate style session with our in-house style consultant!
