Inna Bliss Yoga | Helping Camp Hill Locals Find Inner Bliss

By Chelsea Keim // Place Coorparoo

20 years ago, Amy Wilkinson reconnected with herself and discovered her inner bliss through yoga.

She felt empowered by practising the popular movement and it made her realise how great she felt when she did it regularly, both spiritually and physically.

This sensational feeling inspired Amy to help the local community.

Determined to share how the practise changed her life, Amy decided to become a yoga teacher, opening her very own studio, Inna Bliss.

We sat down with Amy to find out the hidden benefits of yoga and how it helps her connect with the people around her.

Tell us your yoga journey, when did you begin?

I started getting into yoga in my early 20’s. At the time I was regularly going to the gym when I decided to give yoga a shot.

What can I say, I fell in love with it immediately.

The teacher taking the class was, and still is, an amazingly dedicated and passionate instructor. Each class, he would take us on a journey that challenged me physically.

But it was more than that. It gave me what I was most needing in my life at the time - reconnection and self-acceptance.

It was quite remarkable the effect if had on me. Subsequently, yoga steered me in another direction, where I found clarity, strength and openness like never before.

This was a real game-changer and something I would never live without.

Fast-forward seven years later, after many years of exploring different styles, I took my first teacher training course in Brisbane and opened up our bayside Inna Bliss Yoga studio at Wynnum shortly after that.

What benefits do you gain from being a yoga instructor?

For me, embracing yoga into my life and making the decision to become a yoga teacher was not something I took lightly and, to this day, I feel a tremendous privilege to do the work I do.

It’s very humbling, and in many ways, challenging, as I am continually exploring ways to become more congruent with my vision.

Another benefit is evolving the way I teach and how our business operates so we can continue to be of service in the most uplifting of ways. The rewards are enormous and I absolutely love what I do.

For me, Yoga has become a way of life that impacts the way I operate and the quality of how I interact with the people around me.

Teaching yoga keeps me intimately connected to that.

It’s an endless road of discovery and each time I come onto the mat as a teacher, I learn something more from the experience and from our amazing students.

Do you believe Inna Bliss Yoga has helped you connect with the local community?

Absolutely, and that has always been a key part of our vision: to create a space where people can come and reconnect with themselves as well as connect with others in the Camp Hill community.

We need more of this and I love that, as a business, we’re able to support others in the community.

We are fortunate to be located in beautiful Camp Hill and we’re always looking for ways to strengthen the connection with those around us, whether it be businesses, schools or the general public.

What’s something people don’t know about yoga?

Yoga is what it needs to be for you, on any given day, in any given moment.

So many people think it’s just about the poses and breathing we do on the mat.

Yoga is a way of living - a way of being and interacting. It’ll support you to expand and reach new heights. It’ll nourish you when you’re feeling low.

For us as well as many of our members, it has become an essential daily or weekly life practice.

When you do embrace it in such a way... you never look back.
