Local People | He’s Not Lion About his Love for Morningside (Tom Rockliff - Brisbane Lions)
Brisbane Lion’s field star, Tom Rockliff, gives us an insight into his life off the field as we look into his lifestyle in Brisbane’s inner-east suburb of Morningside.
What is it about this AFL star that makes him so successful?
Sure, it’s a combination of natural talent and hard work, but could the relaxed nature of Tom’s local suburb where he spends downtime have any influence?
Tom took us for a walk along his favourite bush track near his Morningside home and shared with us what he loves about the place he calls home.
What do you love about your local area?
The inner-east has so much to offer and it’s the perfect area for me to spend downtime doing the things I love.
Myself, my partner and our two dachshunds spend a lot of time out on the numerous walking tracks.
Our favourite is the Seven Hill Circuit bush walk.
We love going for walks whether it be first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon.
What’s so nice about the bush walking tracks is that you can feel like you’ve escaped the busy city life, even though you’re so close.
I think that downtime is important, especially when we live such busy lifestyles.
With the numerous parks, swimming pools and open spaces on offer, the inner-east is the perfect family environment.
There’s a lot to do in the area with many of opportunities for outdoor activities, allowing families to enjoy the beautiful Queensland sun and time together.
What sort of amenities does it have to offer?
The location is filled with many great cafes, restaurants and bars.
Some of my favourites include The Rabbit Hole Café at Seven Hills and Blue Poppy Café at Morningside.
Of course, there’s the iconic strip of eateries and shops down on Oxford Street, which is always popular amongst locals and visitors.
What opportunities are there in the area for fitness?
Being in the sporting world, training is an essential part of my life.
The Morningside AFL club is a great local field where I train regularly.
There are numerous sports courts, bike circuits and sporting fields on offer, along with walking and running tracks through the bushland.
The Seven Hill’s Circuit is quite large and provides a variety of paths and routes.
