This Friday, a procession of kindergartners will walk proudly around the netball courts at Graceville, holding lanterns that flicker in the evening breeze.

It’s almost time for the Chelmer Station Community Kindy Lantern Parade.

The lanterns are all ready and the children are bursting with excitement.

Now in it’s fourth year, this community event will welcome four other local kindies to join in the parade and make lanterns of their own.

We spoke to two of the mums of CSCK students, Kate Smolders (President of CSCK Management Committee) and Kate Waxman (Lantern Parade Coordinator), who’ve been busily organising this event behind the scenes.

The lantern parade tradition was started by another mum and the kindy have kept it going each year.

The evening will consist of the lantern parade and food stalls with the hope of beating last year’s record of over 500 attendees.
