How’d you like to spend your Saturday down by the river, hanging out with mates with a cold one in hand, indulging in something tasty from an awesome food truck…

Sounds like the perfect day to us!

This weekend marks the 8th year of Teneriffe Festival - a pop-up hub of fashion and lifestyle, street food markets, family activities, live music, dining and historical displays.

Closing off several streets of the suburb, the festival offers visitor and locals a magnificent opportunity to discover the best things this area has to offer.

So let’s join for a cool drink under the winter sun and celebrate one of Brisbane’s trendiest suburbs, Teneriffe – where it has come from, where it is now and its aspirations for the future.

We caught up with the events Chairman, Jillian Kingsford Smith, and got the run-down for what to expect at this year’s festival.

What live entertainment can we expect to see this year?

This year we have some great entertainment planned for the festival.

We’re committed to bringing new and exciting experiences to all our festivals goers with a fantastic line-up on the Triffid River Stage.

The stage will be a platform for a great line-up of bands that the Triffid and Foostomp Music have curated for us this year.

And, of course, we’ve got a few surprises up our sleeves to compliment the festivals entertainment program.

John Collins, Owner of the Triffid, says, “One of the things we love about the Triffid River Stage is knowing that some of the artists that’ll be performing on the stage began their careers busking on the streets of the festival in previous years.”

“We’re stoked to be able to extend our relationship with one of Brisbane’s best street festivals and host great acts you’d normally only seen inside the Triffid- in true Teneriffe style – with the river as a backdrop,” he says.

What’s unique to this year’s festival?

As a celebration of Teneriffe in past, present and future, the iconic Woolstores will come alive with motion paintings created by internationally acclaimed artist, Matt Sheridan.

Projecting rolling movements, textures and sail-shape forms onto the Wool Stores as a symbol of Teneriffe’s history as the centre of industrial trade and naval defence.

With no set beginning and end point, the display will appear differently from multiple vantage points over the course of the night.

The projection will begin across the façade of the Wool Store Buildings during the festival, entertaining and delighting audiences before becoming incorporated into a live show in the London Laneway.

Also, this year’s Presenting Partners of the festival, Green Beacon Brewing Company, have created the ‘beer of Teneriffe’ which was recently announced as being named ‘Riffe Raff Pale Ale.’

How does this year’s event showcase the suburb?

The Teneriffe Festival defines and represents our community’s personality.

From health and fitness, cheese and champagne, folk music to punk rock - the festival program is kaleidoscopic of the suburbs diversity.

Teneriffe Festival is designed as a one-day event that has something for everyone regardless of age or interest.

Inviting people to wander the riverside streets and hidden laneways of Teneriffe, guests discover the delights of the carefully curated program of entertainment, 40 local restaurants and food vendors, over 60 market stalls and of course, a space for the kiddies to run a muck at the Kids World Zone.
