[VIDEO] Fortitude Valley Vet | Providing Love & Care for all Animals

By Shannon Edwards // Place New Farm

Nic Cher was the little boy who always loved animals – bringing home strays off the streets, working as a pet shop assistant, handling reptiles at theme parks and doing educational talks at aquariums.

Taking this love and perusing studies at the Murdoch Veterinary School, Nic has all the expertise to be the number 1 carer for your fur babies.

Local is a seriously funky clinic in Fortitude Valley’s Emporium, Fortitude Valley Vet not only provides the finest veterinary services, but also the sweetest toys, pet accessories and treats for your four-legged loved ones.

We sat down with Nic (and got lots of cuddles from Diesel the dog and Dublin the cat) where he shared his journey to becoming a vet, what makes it so rewarding and gave an important tip on caring for our pets this winter (see below).

What do you love most about being a vet?

What I love, and what the most important thing about being the vet is that I have the ability to cure animals.

Unlike humans, when an animal is sick they’re not able to tell you they’re not feeling well or where something is hurting – similar to babies.

So their owners turn to me to seek my help to be the healer for their animals.

It’s really satisfying for me to be able to tell owners how their pets may be feeling and educating them on how to care for them.

Owners get very upset when their animals are injured, so it’s very satisfying to be able to heal both the parents and their fur babies.

What’s a tip to remember when caring for our pets in winter?

My number 1 tip for all pet owners through the cooler months is to continue using parasitic control for your animals.

For some reason people tend to think that cold weather means no parasites, this is incorrect.

You can still get a lot of flea and tick infestation.

Keep up with the anti-flea, worming tablets, and of course keep up tick prevention.
