Greens & Grains | Two Graceville Mums to the Rescue
Author // Shannon Edwards, Place New Farm
The dreaded morning routine begins with packing lunches and school runs, before the afternoon chaos hits of afternoon sport and making dinner to suit all needs - welcome to the life of our super mums and dads!
Here to make the daily grind that much easier are the wonder women behind Graceville’s Greens & Grains.
Developed by two local Graceville mums, Shona and Kim, Greens & Grains is here to prevent the mind boggling task of working out “what on earth to feed the kids?”
We sat down with Shona & Kim to hear how it all began.

Where did this wonderful concept come from?
We’re two local mums who’ve lived in the area for many years.
Actually… we’re mad mums who struggle to find the time for food prep!
We discovered there were limited healthy takeout options in Brisbane, especially when it comes to salads that are more than the usual basic leaf and vegetable concoction.
We thought, what a difference it would make if we could source a healthy meal for the family without the worry and hassle of meal preparation.
From that, Greens & Grains was born along Graceville’s bustling strip.

We think you’re parent lifesavers - tell us how it works?
We have pre-done meals meaning you can walk in, pick up lunch or dinner and run out the door without any further hassle.
One of the hardest things about deciding what to cook is making sure that every meal is packed with nutrients.
Our food is full of nutritional goodness– even our salad dressings are healthy.
Everything is fresh off the press and sourced from local markets.
The produce comes to us fresh every morning and is prepped in store.

What do you think people love about Greens & Grains?
We’re here to make everyone’s lives easier.
We’re a one stop shop where you can get everything you need.
It’s the convenience of being able to run in and pick up a meal that you know the family will love.
Each of them have 12-15 ingredients and are a meal in-itself – they’re not just your average salads.
They also cover all dietary requirements.
Each day, we have six or seven salads on the bar with a range of gluten free, dairy free, nut free and vegan options.
There’s always something for everyone.
I think our locals also enjoy the concept of the store.
It feels nice coming into the fresh, bright and happy space which we provide here.

How did you come up with the fresh, bright and happy feel to the space?
We wanted the space to have a welcoming feel, just like home.
We based the styling off our homes - both have a similar Hamptons feel.
When we found this place, it already had the dark wooden heritage floors that were a great base.
From there we added the marble bench top and white cabinetry.
The wallpaper also gives the space a real personality.
It was one of our best friend’s nieces who designed the graphics - we thought that why not put the product we’re selling all over the wall!

Okay so we’re having family over on Sunday – what should we do for dinner?
First of all, start off with a quiche as an appetiser, you can select from four different flavours.
All you have to do is pop it in the oven for 12 minutes and it’s ready to go.
Next, make a selection from our pre-packaged pulled meats.
For eight people, I would purchase two bags and then all you have to do is reheat them.
Then get eight of our tasty brioche buns, chuck on the meat and add some coleslaw.
We suggest the BBQ Grilled corn slaw- it’s always a hit amongst the kids.
And you’ll need a selection of two side salads.
We recommend a green salad and put in some Asian chicken for added protein.
And of course dessert… the brownies.
Or the peanut butter caramel slice… or both!
